Ultra-Modern Flare for the Bedroom

January 6th, 2012

There is a trend that the living room and kitchen can be high end modern while the bedroom needs to be soft and old world. I have no issues with the old world style but the ultra-modern style is something to consider.
Try to eliminate as much natural fiber and natural wood as you can. Lately there have been more options for beds and bunk beds with stairs. There have been more designs that use polished metal and plastic over the natural wood that is most common.
Try to use these materials in all of our decorations as well. Simple and non-functional wall decorations based on geometric patterns are very popular. Circles and curves are preferred over angles. Avoid triangles at all costs. Triangles were very popular in the 80s and will read as such.
When buying sheets, pillow cases and comforters for your bed or your childrens bunk beds avoid prints if you can. Try to stick to the same geometric curves and designs for your soft goods as you did for your wall decorations. If you can avoid the temptation of prints then I suggest stark white or black. Black seems just as sterile as white but doesn’t come across as a hospital bed like whit does. Very few people want to look at their bed and think of a hospital stay, let alone their kid’s bunk beds.
Keep the walls simple and plain. Heavily saturated colors like a strong, true blue are perfect for this kind of design. Applying bright, white plastic wall decorations will really stand out on heavily saturated blue. Too often will people default to stark white walls but I suggest against it for the same reason I am not a fan of pure white bedding. It makes the rooms seem like a hospital. Some people are into that. I’m not.
